Ease of Use
The Black & Decker MM2000 electric lawn mower is extremely portable (weighs close to 50 pounds), and you can conveniently drag it around with one hand. Having said that, you need to make sure that the cord trails behind you and doesn’t intrude your path. If you’ve never used a corded lawn mower earlier, it might take a couple of uses to get accustomed. Given its really simple, foldable design, there’s not much you need to do to assemble this electric mower. No fancy tools or technical expertise required whatsoever! The push start button makes it all the more convenient for you to begin your mowing routine without much of a hassle. As is the case with the ‘neat and clean operation’ of all other electric lawn mowers, you thankfully don’t need ear muffs or a face mask! Also, the rear bag for grass collection has a capacity of about 13 gallons; so it doesn’t fill up very fast unlike many other models!
Well, the cutting deck is made of tough, durable plastic and covers an area of 20” at once. Of course this corded MM2000 lawn mower from Black & Decker offers versatility, in terms of acting as a mulching machine, a mower with side discharge and one with rear bagging functionality. Whenever I’ve used this mower to mow reasonably tall grass (up to 5”), it has done a commendable cutting job. But the cutting quality does fumble when you work on wet grass, or there’s too much thatch. So if your grass species or soil type is prone to thatch, make sure you get it dethatched at least once a year. On the whole, the Black and Decker MM2000 has high-grade blades, and provides fine cut quality, except for extremely dense patches interspersed with weeds, where you might need more than one pass.
The height setting provided by the Black & Decker MM2000 is exceptionally varied. While any average electric lawn mower offers 4 to 6 variable heights to function at, this mower offers a range of 7 different levels between 1.5 inches to 4 inches. Needless to state, you can make the adjustment using a simple lever that’s connected to all 4 wheels.
The 13 Amp motor that powers the 13 Amp has been specifically designed for the maintenance of small to mid-sized lawns. It’d not be appropriate to compare it with the long-lasting power and performance of gas-based mowers or higher capacity electric and battery-operated models. But for the kind of functionality and area that it’s been designated, it yields power and performance that’s more than satisfactory!
In terms of warranty, the period of 2 years provided by Black and Decker for this MM2000 electric lawn mower is actually not a bad deal if you consider the price of the mower. But of course, when you compare it with competing models like the GreenWorks 25022, then the generous 4-year warranty provided by GreenWorks makes you feel a bit uneasy. As far as any maintenance-related snags are concerned, my last 11 months of using this mower on and off, has been smooth sailing. But that’s probably because I’ve refrained from all kinds of rugged use. My advice to you is, just don’t wear out this machine too much, and use it for confined urban spaces only,
At the very first-glance, the Black & Decker MM2000 comes across as an extremely pocket-friendly lawn mower. That’s obviously true, and one of the prime reasons for this machine’s immense popularity. But you should also know that you’ll also need to invest in a good quality extension cord.(FYI- For lengths varying from 25to 50 feet, the 14-gauge cord needs to be purchased, while for anything between 50 to 100 feet, the 12-gauge one would suffice.) Also, the power-generating capacity of the 13 Amp motor is strictly limited for small-sized lawns, and the warranty coverage (as mentioned below) is shorter than most other electrical mowers from other brands. On the whole, this Black and Decker Electric Mower can be deemed as cost-effective if you have a small, even area and not very unruly grass to work on.
Extremely Portable Mower!Armed with years of experience in the realm of Lawn Maintenance, I’d like to conclude by stating that your final decision of purchasing a lawn mower ought to be based on your specific needs. There might be really powerful, hi-tech models that are getting all these rave reviews everywhere on the internet; but if you have a small lawn to cater to, and you’re just on the lookout for a ‘no-hassles’, compact and economical mower to conveniently swing around, there’s absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t opt for the Black & Decker MM2000 Electric Corded Lawn Mower!
