Worx WG782, 14 inch, 24 Volt Cordless Lawn Mower with IntelliCut Review

Makes mowing so much easier than ever – the Worx WG782, 14 Inch, 24 Volt cordless lawn mower with IntelliCut is a complete cord-free reliable rechargeable electric mower that uses an intuitive ignition system and other advancements to help mow better. All you need to do is charge up the 24 Volt battery, slide the key in and press start. Did you also know that this petite 14 inch cordless electric mower can also mulch and side discharge, if you so desire? Oh! It even comes replete with a rear bag catcher that signals when it is full. When you wish to mulch just plug in the mulching blade and you are ready to replenish your soil cover.

Cordless lawn mowers tend to lack the raw power of a petrol version and hence to overcome such a situation this Worx electric lawn mower comes with two power options. One helps it run silent and automatically change power depending on the resistance it feels against the grass cover. The other is called the ”Power Mode” that basically tramples, chews and spits out anything in its path including leaves and tiny twigs. Lastly, you might be interested in knowing that the Worx WG782 cordless lawn mower is covered by a 2 year warranty. Among all small deck sized mowers, I believe this is the best electric lawn mower, ideally suited to properties less than 10,000 square feet in size.

In-depth Review WORX WG782 Review

Ease Of Use

The Worx WG782, 14 Inch, 24 Volt cordless lawn mower with IntelliCut  is not for everyone. Let me be the first to tell you that you may not like this mower at all or you may love it like none before or ever after! It all depends on three things. First, is your lawn small enough to warrant a small deck size of just 14 inches? Second, do you regularly mow your lawn on a weekly basis at the very least? Lastly, are you fine walking more than you usually would, mowing your lawn? If you answered yes to all the above, then this cordless lawn mower is exactly made for you. Yes, it is small, much like a plastic toy and powered by a meagre 24 volt battery that drains quick. But on the flipside, it happens to be light and easy to maneuver, capable of mulching, rear-discharging and more. Besides it happens to be eco-friendly, noise free and an absolute pleasure starting. I found the foldable handle, removable mulch blade attachment and rear bag all handy accessories. In fact, considering the price tag this cordless electric mower retails for, it is one of the easiest machines you will ever come across.

The only real reason why I deduct a couple of points is because of its less than useful IntelliCut mode. I had to almost always use the Power mode otherwise the mower would struggle with patches of grass here and there. Why give something that is unreliable? The only time I felt IntelliCut mode worked was when I mowed every three days! This is just not doable for a lot of folks out there.

Being so small and underpowered, this mower will not tackle grass over 2 feet tall so never let your yard sit that long. Moreover, I felt this mower worked harder with wet grass than with dry afternoon grass. My advice, mow the yard in the afternoon when the grass is at its driest. As for mulching, the Worx WG782, 14 Inch, 24 Volt cordless lawn mower with IntelliCut does a splendid job. Same can also be said for rear discharge and bagging though the bag seems to fill up rather quickly.

Height Adjustment

You get the option of choosing between 1.8 and 3.3 inches, which is less than most other competing cordless mowers. Nevertheless, considering its 14 inch deck and truly lightweight chassis I am astounded to see it performs equally well at its lowest setting as it does at the highest. To change the height you have to fiddle with the front side, with a catch lever underneath the mower so remember to keep the start plug disengaged when you do change the height!

Motor Power

For the 14 inch deck and hence rather short blade, the 24 Volt battery and its motor seem more than adequate. In fact, operating in power mode and mulching seems to draw a comfortable 30 minutes of activity before the mower abruptly stops. This and the ability to mulch, rear discharge and bag gives its tiny motor a lot of credibility. However, I found out the IntelliCut just lacks power to deal with taller grass.

Maintenance

At first glance, I believed this toy mower would disintegrate in a matter of months although my research before acquiring it gave no such indication. I stand corrected now after couple of months. The handle retains its rigidity and yet folds comfortably later on. The wheels don’t lock or feel stuck up neither does the performance drop at all. And, judging from what I read on the battery, it ought to last well over two years. My advice therefore is to get a second spare battery (costs less than $90) along with the Worx WG782 cordless lawn mower to help elongate overall battery life and efficiency. Practically all you will ever need to worry about, is the dulling of the blade.

Cost Effectiveness

Once again, if you need a larger than 21 inch deck gas mower for your lawn, this is definitely not the appropriate cordless replacement mower. However, if you already have a large heavy gas mower and need a suitable part-time helper or your lawn is less than 1000 square feet with little or no inclination, the Worx WG782 will be an ideal choice. It costs at least a third of a large powerful gas/electric mower and offers mulching as an option. What more can you ask for?

Only Useful for Small Lawns
I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Worx WG782, 14 Inch, 24 Volt cordless lawn mower with IntelliCut  and in my opinion it is the best electric lawn mower for yards less than 1/4th of an acre. Does it match up to more expensive and larger mowers? No, it definitely does not, but it stands out among a host of other cordless and corded electric mowers designed for small property owners as one that costs much less and delivers so much more.
