Greenworks 25302, Twin Force G-Max, 40 V Litium iOn Cordless Mower, 20 Inch Review

Best known for regular innovation and updation, GreenWorks introduces its latest G-MAX series mower that operates on 40 Volt Lithium ion batteries and uses dual blade designed for increased efficiency and improved battery life. Greenworks 25302 Twin Force G Max 40 Volt Lithium Ion Cordless Mower 20 Inch also happens to be my favorite mower even if it doesn’t feature as my best electric lawn mower. Total of 70 minutes of run time plus single height adjustment lever, rear-discharge bag and the ability to mulch when necessary gives this 20 inch mower a lot of features that are hard to find on many other cordless electric mower.

Before I delve into my experience with the GreenWorks 25302, I have to point out that this eco-friendly warrior is a glimpse of what the future of GreenWorks holds. Not yet at its best but definitely well worth investigating.

In-depth Review of the Greenworks 25302

Ease Of Use

Typically all electric mowers are easy to use. Other than a few ergonomic issues, they don’t suffer from complicated start protocols or maintenance requirements. The GreenWorks 25302 is a mower that is mighty easy to start and use. Punch in both or one of the batteries in place, make sure the safety plug is connected and press the button while tugging on the speed handle to start up the motor. It really is that simple. However, what I want to draw your attention to is the Intelligent speed monitor of the mower. I noticed that every time I passed on a dense patch of grass or a slightly more deeper region, the motor would notch up one gear or so. I presume without such an innovative addition, these regions would need more than one pass at least.

The handles come separately and need about 5 minutes to assemble. During assembly it becomes clear how to store the mower as the handles completely fold over each other when not in use. As for the wheels, it is nice to have larger back wheels and small fronts, with a slight tilt to the front end. This helps maneuver the mower better. A little useful advice – many folks complain about the number of passes required with the 25302 electric lawn mower but if you mow in the afternoon when the grass is at its driest, the end result will be much better.

Cut Quality

While this mower can do more than just collect grass clippings in the rear discharge bag, it still has a lot to achieve. But, before I move on to the negatives, this Greenworks electric lawn mower can mulch! Yes, almost all Greenworks electric corded and cordless versions are capable of mulching. Moving on, the cut quality in my opinion suffers because of the twin blade arrangement that leaves a fractional space between the two blades where grass blades may remain untouched. The only way to overcome this is to overlap stripes as you mow your lawn and keep an eye out for that odd blade of grass sticking up arrogantly in your face.

Height Adjustment

Total of six positions starting from 1.15 inches to 3.5 inches ought to suffice for most. Thankfully, mowing lawns that have grown unchecked to heights beyond 6 inches with this electric lawn mower is not an issue at all. Simply start with the highest height setting and for your second pass reduce to the desired height. The entire mechanism of choosing the height also happens to be quite easy with a single lever controlling all four wheels simultaneously.

Motor Power

I have never before felt a cordless mower so powerful and don’t think ever will again. If I were ranking based on power alone, this would easily be the best electric lawn mower. Two batteries, one 2A and the other 4A together ensure a constant stream of power to the motor that happens to pump up more speed wherever it feels necessary. Together the two batteries last an amazing 60 plus minutes even with all the intelligent speed predictions and separately, they charge for 1 hour and 2 hours respectively meaning you are ready to rumble in a matter of hours.

Maintenance

If it weren’t for the cheap rubber grips on the handles, I would surely have added another point to the Greenworks 25302 cordless lawn mower. I don’t understand when good companies take a lot of pain designing an awesome machine only to cut corners with the cheapest of the components for no reason at all. Likewise, the bottom rear rubber guard is not up to standard because of which at times it tends to deform and go underneath the mower. This can be dangerous if you aren’t alert enough as it leaves your feet exposed to the rear side when mulching.

Cost Effectiveness

Yes, it is expensive and has a few disadvantages, but the concept and overall experience is nothing short of splendid. If you can live with a few minor chinks then this mower will last you a long time as well as being powerful, easy to use.

PROS:
  • Powerful mower
  • Running time
  • Mulch option
  • Bag included

CONS:
  • Some cheap rubber parts
