Best known for regular innovation and updation, GreenWorks introduces its latest G-MAX series mower that operates on 40 Volt Lithium ion batteries and uses dual blade designed for increased efficiency and improved battery life. Greenworks 25302 Twin Force G Max 40 Volt Lithium Ion Cordless Mower 20 Inch also happens to be my favorite mower even if it doesn’t feature as my best electric lawn mower. Total of 70 minutes of run time plus single height adjustment lever, rear-discharge bag and the ability to mulch when necessary gives this 20 inch mower a lot of features that are hard to find on many other cordless electric mower.

Before I delve into my experience with the GreenWorks 25302, I have to point out that this eco-friendly warrior is a glimpse of what the future of GreenWorks holds. Not yet at its best but definitely well worth investigating.

In-depth Review of the Greenworks 25302

Ease Of Use

Typically all electric mowers are easy to use. Other than a few ergonomic issues, they don’t suffer from complicated start protocols or maintenance requirements. The GreenWorks 25302 is a mower that is mighty easy to start and use. Punch in both or one of the batteries in place, make sure the safety plug is connected and press the button while tugging on the speed handle to start up the motor. It really is that simple. However, what I want to draw your attention to is the Intelligent speed monitor of the mower. I noticed that every time I passed on a dense patch of grass or a slightly more deeper region, the motor would notch up one gear or so. I presume without such an innovative addition, these regions would need more than one pass at least.

The handles come separately and need about 5 minutes to assemble. During assembly it becomes clear how to store the mower as the handles completely fold over each other when not in use. As for the wheels, it is nice to have larger back wheels and small fronts, with a slight tilt to the front end. This helps maneuver the mower better. A little useful advice – many folks complain about the number of passes required with the 25302 electric lawn mower but if you mow in the afternoon when the grass is at its driest, the end result will be much better.

Cut Quality

While this mower can do more than just collect grass clippings in the rear discharge bag, it still has a lot to achieve. But, before I move on to the negatives, this Greenworks electric lawn mower can mulch! Yes, almost all Greenworks electric corded and cordless versions are capable of mulching. Moving on, the cut quality in my opinion suffers because of the twin blade arrangement that leaves a fractional space between the two blades where grass blades may remain untouched. The only way to overcome this is to overlap stripes as you mow your lawn and keep an eye out for that odd blade of grass sticking up arrogantly in your face.

Height Adjustment

Total of six positions starting from 1.15 inches to 3.5 inches ought to suffice for most. Thankfully, mowing lawns that have grown unchecked to heights beyond 6 inches with this electric lawn mower is not an issue at all. Simply start with the highest height setting and for your second pass reduce to the desired height. The entire mechanism of choosing the height also happens to be quite easy with a single lever controlling all four wheels simultaneously.

Motor Power

I have never before felt a cordless mower so powerful and don’t think ever will again. If I were ranking based on power alone, this would easily be the best electric lawn mower. Two batteries, one 2A and the other 4A together ensure a constant stream of power to the motor that happens to pump up more speed wherever it feels necessary. Together the two batteries last an amazing 60 plus minutes even with all the intelligent speed predictions and separately, they charge for 1 hour and 2 hours respectively meaning you are ready to rumble in a matter of hours.

Maintenance

If it weren’t for the cheap rubber grips on the handles, I would surely have added another point to the Greenworks 25302 cordless lawn mower. I don’t understand when good companies take a lot of pain designing an awesome machine only to cut corners with the cheapest of the components for no reason at all. Likewise, the bottom rear rubber guard is not up to standard because of which at times it tends to deform and go underneath the mower. This can be dangerous if you aren’t alert enough as it leaves your feet exposed to the rear side when mulching.

Cost Effectiveness

Yes, it is expensive and has a few disadvantages, but the concept and overall experience is nothing short of splendid. If you can live with a few minor chinks then this mower will last you a long time as well as being powerful, easy to use.

I have one of these based on a lot of investigation and many recommendations like this site. I found one thing to be lacking on all tests, and that is the real battery voltage vs the claimed voltage. The battery voltage rating on this mower is not accurate. They market it as a 40V mower, when in fact, it is only a 32V mower. The 32V is the fully charged value and not the nominal value either. Some of the other manufacturers use the real max voltage and some even use the nominal value, which is even more accurate.

The other thing is the deck size. The 20″ rating gives the impression of a large cut when in fact, it is only 18.5″. That is a whole 1.5″ less than the listed value on the box and less than some other mowers that are listed at a smaller size.

Don’t get me wrong, I like my mower, but I wish I had all the real facts when I bought it. It might have changed my mind and bought a different brand just because I don’t like shady business practices that bend the truth using questionable marketing strategies.

I Loved this product when I first got it….then things started falling apart within the first month and customer service was horrible! First they sent me a new charger, which took weeks to get to me, and that didn’t work. Then they sent me new batteries, which again took weeks to get to me, and that didn’t work either. Each time I asked for expedited shipping and they said it wasn’t available. I asked for a refund but they told me I would have to go through Amazon, which wasn’t possible because I was past the return date. I was stuck with this worthless, unusable lawnmower! They then told me I would have to take the mower to a service center, 60 MILES AWAY!! UNACCEPTABLE!! Finally they told me they would send out a new unit, but it would be up to 4 weeks for me to receive it. Thank goodness we’ve been having a drought so my lawn hasn’t grown much, and I’ve got a great neighbor that let me borrow his gas mower. I WOULD NOT BUY THIS MOWER AGAIN!! I purchased this unit in March ’15 and I still don’t have a working mower. Maybe by the end of summer, and hopefully that unit will keep working. 🙁

So sorry to hear this Danielle. Unfortunately many people suffer battery issues. In my post about electric mowers I explain the differences between the corded and cordless versions. Have a look and get informed to avoid future disappointments.

Mine is not collecting anything (cut grass or leaves) in collecting bag. I didn’t find any information about how to fix this problem in mower manual. Is it asslambling issue or malfunction ? Can anyone help me? Thank you in advance.

Did you remove the muclh plug? The catcher does not work when the mulch unit is installed.

Get the extra blades, sharpen them. I just got the HD battery upgrade. It works perfect, no stinking gas-o-line! It doesn’t mulch so well, but I think once I sharpen the blade it will do the job. Most of the blades do not come really sharp from the manufacturer. Just a great value product, I was surprised at its price. It takes a little more time to unbox and set but trust me, it is worth it.
You can surely go for this one without talking any second thought.

I just used my new green works dual blade mower. Fully charged the batteries but 15 minutes into mowing blade #1 stopped turning while blade #2 kept cutting. Any suggestions on what went wrong?

Hmmmm, strange issue. Did you check if the blade is correctly assembled or maybe some twig obstructed the blade? To do so, remove the key and the battery and turn the mower to its side. wedge a block of wood between the blades and the mower deck to prevend the blades from spinning. Check your instruction manual for more details. If you cannot find what the trouble might be, call the GreenWorks toll free helpline at 1 888 9096757. You have a 4-years warranty on your mower!

    This is a great product.

+ PROS: The mower is quiet, light and easy to use. Would happily buy again or use another GreenWorks product.
    - CONS: My only issue is that my yard is over 1/2 an acre and I needed to buy a 3rd battery to get it all done in one morning.

The reason the 2 blades are staggered is so that the 2 blade paths overlap. There should be no space between the cut paths unless one is mowing while turning to the right, or cutting on a steep slope where the mower can drift diagonally to the right.
At a given motor speed, the cutting edge of these short blades will be moving far slower than a single 20″ blade would be. Edge speed is critical to cut quality, so that could be the cause of the stragglers you found.
