In-depth Review of the GreenWorks 2500502 DigiPro G-Max Cordless Lawn Mower

Ease of Use

Weighed at just 50 pounds and with rough dimensions of 30 x 10 x 20 inches, the GreenWorks 2500502 DigiPro G-Max is very portable, and wins hands down for its innate user-friendliness. While I’ve already told you about the easy push-start button, what I probably missed out is that the handles are not just foam-padded but also collapsible for easy storage! There’s almost no need to assemble it; only the handle and side-discharge bag (if you need) have to be fixed. I left it on charge for about 2 hours, and to my utter delight, it got down to business right away for 65 minutes straight, with incredible power! In areas with stubborn weeds, two passes were required of course. And the catch bag is small, so you need to empty it out every 20 minutes or so. But honestly, that’s not much of a hassle.

Cut Quality

As long as you make sure that the grass on your deck isn’t too wet, or doesn’t have excessive thatch, the GreenWorks 2500502 does its job extremely well. Even when the grass is really lush, thick and at its prime, it’s never happened so that this wonder-mower didn’t manage to cut properly. My lawn has never looked so stunning, and I’ve only needed to spend an hour on it every week or so. I’m not much of a fan as far as this machine’s ‘mulching abilities’ are concerned. I tried it once, and I found that the mulch that was generated was not as finely pulverized as required. So I’ve permanently set the lever to the ‘bagging function’ and dump the clippings in the neighborhood compost pit.

Height Adjustment

GreenWorks 2500502 Height Adjustment

You can choose from 7 height positions ranging from 1.25 – 3.5 inches

The easiest part of using the GreenWorks 2500502 19 inch mower, is the seamless single-lever height adjustment. As a child, I once saw my dad throwing his back out real bad while trying to increase the height of the wheels of his old, heavy gasoline-powered mower. Given the rising popularity of user-friendly, electric lawn mowers such as this one, our generation (and others to come!) will thankfully never have to face such a problem!

Motor Power

I know what you’re thinking- that a battery-powered lawn mower can never have a motor as powerful as that of a fuel-based one. But I’m glad to state that this is absolutely not the case with the fabulous line of GreenWork’s eco-friendly lawn mowers. Here are the two major reasons:-

DigiPro Brushless Motor- A standard feature with all GreenWorks battery-run mowers, is the DigiPro Brushless Motor which efficiently converts electrical energy to mechanical energy with the use of magnets. It works at its highest efficiency (higher torque per watt), has an assured long life and excellent run time.

40V Lithium Ion Battery- Why Lithium Ion Batteries are a league apart from regular batteries, is that you don’t need to worry about loss of power during storage. Like traditional batteries, they don’t need to be charged and then ‘run down’ fully. So whether you use it a little, keep it idle for 2 weeks and use it later, the battery still retains the same efficiency. Similarly, you don’t have to worry about reducing the life or capacity of the battery if you say, put it to charge even if only half-used, or charge it sporadically when required.

Of course, if I speak practically, the run-time of your battery will be slightly vary based on factors such as the terrain, area, length and thickness of grass etc. But the standard figures are that the 2 AH battery needs to be charged for 1hour and provides a run time of 30 minutes on an average, and the 4AH battery warrants a charging-time of 2 hours, and provides a run-time of 60 minutes. The batteries can be use for several other lawn care tools, like trimmers or hedgers.

Maintenance

Multi-use Greenworks batteryAs far as its warranty period is concerned, the GreenWorks 2500502 DigiPro G-Max cordless lawn ,ower is well worth your investment. Its battery is covered by a warranty period of 1 year, while all other aspects like frame, parts, labor and electrical aspects are covered for a time period of 4 years. Personally, I haven’t found a single flaw that warranted a call to Customer Support over the past 5 months, although I have a feeling that the blades might need to be sharpened after a few more uses as they seem to be losing their edge.

Cost Effectiveness

Given the amount you spend, purchasing an electric lawn mower ought to be a one-time investment. Trust me, it’s always better to weigh in all necessary factors like deck size, power source, grass-handling, propulsion, maintenance and pricing. Buy a sturdy, reliable machine in one go, rather than opting for a cheap, flimsy one and having to replace it every few years. This machine is certainly cost-effective for small and medium lawn sizes in comparision to other cordless lawn mowers, and saves you a great deal of time on the complications of a gas or oil-based mower. Its batteries can be used on serveral other Greenworks lawn care tools.

My lawn was just big enough to make cord wrangling a pain, but i suffered that for years because wide cordless mowers were too expensive. then i saw this one and found that the price varies significantly by season, so i waited and got it for an excellent price. after two uses i love it. the dual blades are a great idea to reduce motor strain. let’s hope both motors have a long life. it appears to only drain on of the two batteries at a time, and my small lawn consumes less than half of one battery. i deduct one point because the grass catcher does not seem to be functioning well. i’ll update if it turns out to be my error. but i definately recommend this mower.
